Former Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki Dies At 90

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta today announced the death of the former President of Kenya, Mwai Kibaki who died at the age of 90 years.

Mwai Kibaki was the first opposition President for Kenya after winning the 2001 and 2007 elections.

The 2007 elections ended in violence, and more than 1,200 people died in bloody ethnic battles.

President Kenyatta declared a mourning period until Mr. Mwai Kibaki is laid to rest with Flags flying at half-mast. The deceased will be honored with a state funeral, President Uhuru Kenyatta stated.

“Kibaki was a quintessential Patriot whose legacy of civic responsibility will continue to inspire generations of Kenyans long into our future,” Kenyatta said.
